Our Cleveland church is located between E. 185th Street & E. 200 Street on Pawnee Avenue. Our congregation has been a part of the Cleveland Ohio community since 1917 (We just celebrated100 years!) The church was built in 1927 as the result of the Collinwood School Fire of 1908 which took the lives of 172 children, 2 teachers, and a rescuer. The parents of one child, Laura Baldwin (who perished in the fire) donated the land on which our church stands today. It was built to continue to honor the spirits of those who passed, which is why the name Memorial Spiritual Church was adopted.
We are bible-based, but we also embrace and respect the diversity of all other religions. Although we celebrate through a Christian worship format, all are welcome regardless of their spiritual or personal beliefs to join in the celebration of our creator.
Many philosophies and religions believe that each individual living being has a unique inner essence, a unique personality and , known as the soul. This belief dates back to Ancient Egypt, to at least about 3150 B.C. We believe that the soul is an energy that never dies, only changes form. We call this unique inner essence spirit. Spiritualism is the belief that the body dies but the soul lives on as a spirit. This fact is taught in the bible through the verse John 3:16 --- For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
In that same line of reasoning, our church believes in utilizing the spiritual gifts granted to us through God as indicated in the Holy Bible 1 Corinthians: Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.
We have a special service at our Cleveland location on the first Wednesday of each month at 7 pm to celebrate and utilize our spiritual gifts of discernment of spirits and healing. Please see our home page for more information.
We believe in living life as Jesus lived as he walked the earth. We believe that His Father, God in heaven and the Holy Spirit play an important role in our lives on a daily basis. We believe that God should always come first in our lives and the rest are just details :)
In life we all need to understand Natural Laws, such as what you give out comes back to you, that if you plant roses, you do not get carnations. Natural Law is very specific. You harvest what you plant. You reap what you sow. The Bible tells us; Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. (Galatians 6:7)
